Many of you have met and welcomed our new office manager, Alissa
Wible.ƯAlissa joins us as a recent graduate from Oberlin College, where she
studied biopsychology. She has a special interest in running a naturopathic
doctor's office since she is interested in pursuing natural medicine and psychology
in graduate school. In her free time, Alissa is an avid biker, yogini and
cellist.
Alissa started on July 1st and doing a stellar job. She has already mastered
the office and has moved onto, among other things, implementing a recycling program
for the Heights Medical Building that we hope to see in place soon!
DR. HOLSTON SINGH
You may have noticed the new name around town in various listings
as a result of Dr. Holston's marriage on July 8th. Thank you for the plethora
of warm wishes and congratulations you have given since this event. The name
change will be official soon, and the office is updating paperwork, handouts,
etc. as quickly as possible. As most of you already know, as a result of
her husband's new job in Louisiana, Dr. Holston Singh will be taking a multiple
year leave from her Cleveland practice. During this time she will do some
much needed professional writing on natural medicine, in conjunction with
mentoring Dr. Liz Cavin, who will join Options Naturopathic Clinic in September
in her place.
DR. LIZ CAVIN
See BIO below!
Dr. Cavin has decided to move to Ohio to develop her interest in the European
homeopathic method Dr. Holston Singh uses. While Dr. Cavin is here,
Dr. Holston Singh will work with her on a case-by-case basis, facilitating
the ongoing care of existing patients, as well as training Dr. Cavin
in the specifics of Dr. Gerard Gueniot's methods, the master of the
French pluralist method of homeopathy and natural medicine Dr. Holston
Singh intends to elucidate in her writing.
About Dr. Liz Cavin
Dr. Liz Cavin comes to Options Naturopathic Clinic with a diverse background
in natural health care. Naturopathic medicine, homeopathy, Ayurveda and massage
therapy contribute to her growing experience in working with patients from an
holistic perspective, all of which she has used to aid the healing process with
great success.
During her graduate education at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine
(NCNM), Dr. Cavin also studied "Biotherapeutic Drainage", or what may be more
familiar as the Unda numbers and the European method of homeopathy Dr. Holston
Singh uses with her patients. Dr. Cavin decided to join Dr. Holston Singh's
practice to gain more experience in this regard.
Prior to her naturopathic medical training, Dr. Cavin practiced as a licensed
massage therapist for ten years after studying massage at the Scherer Institute
of Natural Healing in Santa Fe, New Mexico. While living in New Mexico, Dr.
Cavin studied botanical medicine with Tieraona LowDog, MD. Botanical medicine
is one of her passions, and being able to identify medicinal plants while hiking
provides immense satisfaction.
Ayurvedic medicine, the traditional medicine of India is another interest of
Dr. Cavin's. She completed a three hundred hour course at the Ayurvedic Institute
and worked there for several years after completing her course work.
Dr. Cavin is moving to Cleveland from Portland, Oregon and is excited to work
with Dr. Holston Singh. Dr. Cavin is looking forward to living where it snows,
riding her bike in the Cleveland area and learning about the birds and medicinal
plants of the region.
BELINDA BARNETT, LMT Massage Therapy
Belinda has a unique approach to massage therapy using
myofascial release, herbal massage, aromatherapy, energy healing and
reflexology. She's one of Dr. Holston Singh's favorites!
CAROLE ANN HENSLEY, LMT Visceral manipulation
Visceral manipulation is a gentle massage of the digestive and
respiratory organs to help relieve tension and promote the efficient
functioning of those organs. This work can have both profound and subtle
effects on digestion, elimination and even the structure and function
of the skeletal muscles.

A RECIPE: Ginger Lime Coconut Sorbet
This recipe is a high fat, high calorie dessert that's great for
cancer patients. The ginger is also an anti-natusea spice, good for
those going through chemotherapy.
Ingredients:
1 can coconut milk (full fat)
1 lime, zested
2 Tbsp fresh ginger, finely chopped
Maple syrup or honey
Dash of cream (optional)
Place coconut milk in a medium sauce pan over medium heat. Add lime
zest and ginger. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer, cover,
let simmer for 20-30 minutes stirring with a whisk occasionally. Turn
off heat and let set for another 30 minutes. Strain mixture into a
freezer safe bowl and add maple syrup or honey to desired sweetness.
Add cream if desired. Put bowl in freezer, removing occasionally to
whisk until frozen. Best left overnight to freeze.
