Lymphatic Drainage goes deeper than you may realize…
Last month we opened our new series of Newsletters with refreshing insights on pH and pleomorphism. We hope you enjoyed that digest about how understanding the intelligence of pH and adopting the pleomorphic perspective supports the execution of The Principles of Healing so fundamental to our work.
A New Series: Terrain, Consciousness, and Biology
The elements of our ‘Principles of Healing’ overview remain our compass as we go deeper into how the body actually restores coherence. This month, we bring you Lymph and Flow. A closer look at our lymphatic system and what it’s trying to tell us. These understandings are a peek into the larger concepts in Dr. Erin’s forthcoming book, Source Medicine:
Your body is a living field
Biology mirrors terrain
Terrain is shaped by consciousness
So, let’s talk Lymph…The lymphatic system has suddenly become trendy—everywhere I look, people are talking about lymph! At Options Naturopathic, we take a deeper view, one that integrates both biology and consciousness.

Your body’s Chemistry is always talking.
Here’s how to really Listen…
What is the Lymphatic System?
Think of the lymphatic system as your body’s “microbe highway.” Running parallel to your veins, it carries immune cells and microscopic debris—bits of old cells, proteins, and waste products—toward the heart. There, the fluid merges back into your circulation before being processed by the liver, kidneys, and intestines. These elimination routes are known as the emunctories, your body’s exits for clearing out what’s no longer needed.Movement of lymph is essential for detoxification and healing—this is where most bloggers and influencers stop. But let’s go deeper.
The Missing Piece: Consciousness
Your lymph is more than just plumbing—it’s intimately connected to your emotions and awareness. Here’s the intriguing part: microbes that live with us (and as us) shift depending on what we are feeling. For example, a sore throat and swollen lymph nodes in the neck often appear after difficult interactions with others. Streptococcus may show up in the throat during these illnesses, but it isn’t the bacteria that “caused” the problem. Instead, our microbes are reflecting and responding to the inner state we are processing. Sometimes, symptoms occur even without a clear pathogen, or “infection,” present at all.
So What Does This Mean?
Microbes mirror our consciousness. They respond to shifts in our feelings and help bring buried experiences into awareness.
Illness isn’t always an attack.
Often, it’s a healing process triggered by emotional or relational events. Lymph is the stage. When feelings build up—like waste waiting to be processed—the lymphatic system becomes congested, signaling the need for movement, both physical and emotional.
This way of viewing your lymph system ties directly into the Principles of Healing—symptoms are not enemies to suppress, but signals to be understood. Movement, breath, hydration, and honest acknowledgment of your feelings all help keep lymph flowing, both physically and spiritually. If this perspective intrigues you, know that it is only the beginning. In my forthcoming book, which is expected to be released in 2026, I delve deeper into how microbes are not just passive passengers but reflections of consciousness itself—partners in our healing journey. They show us how symptoms are expressions of transformation, not enemies to be suppressed.

Our Emotional Connection…
The lymphatic system, commonly understood as a drainage network for waste and immune cells, is in truth much more: it is the circulatory bridge between microbial intelligence and human consciousness. Lymph vessels run parallel to veins, escorting immune cells and debris toward the heart, where the fluid returns to circulation before elimination through the liver, kidneys, and intestines—the emunctories. This physiology is well described. But what is rarely considered is how microbes and feelings are co-arising phenomena, communicating through the medium of lymph. Microbes—our bacterial kin, which science frames as “other,” yet which are inseparable from us—carry information not only about physical waste but also about emotional residue. Consciousness, the field of awareness that holds our perceptions and experiences, finds its reflection in microbial behavior. When an emotional state arises, microbes shift in response, amplifying certain strains, withdrawing others, and producing conditions we label as “illness.”
For Instance:
Take the example of a sore throat. After an emotionally charged exchange with another person, the lymph nodes in the neck may swell, and Streptococcus might appear on culture. Yet the illness is not caused by the bacteria. Rather, Streptococcus is one possible microbial signature of an emotional state, a vibrational translation of unprocessed feelings moving through the system. Sometimes, no pathogen is identified at all, underscoring that it is not the microbe as an external invader, but rather the individual’s consciousness that initiates the process. Thus, the lymphatic system can be seen as the backlog point when consciousness meets biology. Just as waste accumulates when physical movement is absent, so too do unprocessed emotions create lymphatic congestion. Illness, then, becomes the body’s ritual of clearing—an orchestration of microbes and immune cells reflecting our inner states, moving stagnation toward resolution.
This perspective aligns with the ‘Principles of Healing’: symptoms are not errors, but intelligent processes of transformation. The microbes are allies, transcribing the invisible states of mind into the visible terrain of the body, so that what is unconscious may surface, be witnessed, and move.
Simple Practice to Begin Processing Your Emotions
Tying all of this together can be transformative in your efforts to be proactive about your emotional—and therefore overall—well-being. When we recognize that unprocessed emotions can manifest in our physiology, we can take intentional steps to maintain healthy emotional awareness. In doing so, we create the opportunity to experience the meaningful improvements in health that we’re striving for.Find a quiet space where you won’t be interrupted for five minutes. Sit comfortably, close your eyes, and bring your awareness to your breath—slowly inhaling through your nose, gently exhaling through your mouth. As you breathe, notice what feelings are present without trying to change them. If an emotion feels vague, name it as best you can (“sad,” “tight,” “overwhelmed,” “uncertain”).Place your hand over the part of your body where you sense this feeling the most—your throat, chest, or stomach—and simply breathe into that space. Imagine the breath creating gentle movement in and around the feeling, allowing it to loosen and flow. This practice doesn’t require solving anything—only witnessing and letting the body begin its own process of release.

The First Action in Any Illness:
Your Homeopathic First Aid Kit
Before reaching for medications or rushing into reaction, the most powerful first response in any acute illness or discomfort is to support the body’s own intelligence. Our Homeopathic First Aid Kit was designed precisely for that. It is a direct way to activate the Vital Force, the self-organizing power that restores coherence and resolves imbalance from within.
Each kit includes:
A selection of essential homeopathic remedies
A cross-referenced guide that pairs symptoms with the most indicated remedy
This allows you to immediately match what you are experiencing—such as fever, sore throat, injury, fear, cough, or digestive upset—with the remedy that speaks to the pattern your body is expressing.
If you’re curious, this pairing of symptoms to remedies is based on two classical tools of homeopathy:
Materia Medica – a detailed description of what each remedy supports. Think of it as the profile or “personality” of each medicine.
Repertory – an organized index of symptoms pointing to possible remedies. This is the map that helps you navigate toward what is needed quickly.
Our kit combines these two functions into a simple, easy-to-read reference, so even if you are new to homeopathy, you can take meaningful and immediate action.
Why start here?
Because when we address imbalance at the level of pattern—before suppressing symptoms or overriding the signal—we give the body the chance to upshift and self-correct, rather than force change. This often shortens recovery time, prevents complications, and reconnects us to consciousness-led healing.
In short…
The Homeopathic First Aid Kit isn’t just a convenience—it’s the first step in any healing response. Use it anytime something arises. Start here, listen, support the body, and allow the intelligence within to lead the way.
